Rain, Shine, or Irene?

I know, I have been absent.

Life. It gets in the way sometimes.

So I survived my 16 miler... and I did not even use my iPod. I am not going to lie, it was tough... but if you were following me on Facebook, then you know... it was pretty G.B.A. - yeah, even G told me it was.

And if you follow my plan, I was *only* supposed to run 10 miles last Saturday. I ran my 16 a week early, because I had signed up for the Annapolis 10-miler. I was excited because although I already have an awesome 10 mile PR, I wanted the challenge of this course. I mean look at the elevation:

Not exactly the flat course of the Cherry Blossom 10-miler.

But now with this little thing call Hurricane Irene approaching, inquiring minds want to know whether the race will be cancelled or not. And on Monday, they sent all registrants an email that said the race will go on: Rain, Shine or Irene!

What? Really? I mean, I haven't trained properly for a race in heavy rain and 100 mph winds... have you? How will it affect my speed? I wonder if we will be running against the wind. Twice we run over a bridge... if it is side winds... some of those skinny ladies, might be blown right over... does that mean they forfeit?  Hmmm.

So I have a decision to make. They won't call the race until last minute because we have no idea where crazy Irene is going... we can predict... but since we aren't God, we don't really know. And even though I have a direct line to the big guy, He hasn't shared His plan with me regarding the storm.

And the likelihood that they call the race Sunday morning, I will still need to get my long run in.... oh, Milles... 10 miles on you seems... horrific.

So what would you do? Run 10 on Saturday (still could be raining and strong winds) and run 10 again on Sunday if they have the race? Wait it out?

And because you ALL know that we run for the swag (lol)... this race gives the swag - as a finisher's premium:

Oh... I *really* want it. No race, no swag? What will they do with all of those 1/2 zip thermal tops?

How are you avoiding Irene?

Nice swag! Maybe if they cancel, they will still send you the shirts. I really don't like running in the rain! Good Luck!

I'm probably the wrong person to ask for advice, but I don't think I'd do a long run in the rain/wind. I probably wouldn't do the race either in those conditions. But then again, i'm a desert dweller, we melt when we get wet. hahahahh

I say go for it and run. It might be one of those truly great memorable experiences. But if for some reason it gets cancelled and you have to do your 10 on Milles it is not as hard as you think! I know you could do it if you had too.

I hope Irene ends up not ruining the race for you! I would still run it unless the weather is really really bad.

That is some super awesome swag!

Hopefully the race is not canceled - I guess I will wait until Sunday to find out! If it's on I think I'll be there! www.runfront.com
