Maybe, I could have waited, but if I show up to my marathon on October 31st and it was like today... I cannot wait. I will have to run in it... so I decided to do that today.
I broke out my leggings and a long sleeve race shirt (the shirt from Parks Half Marathon that I did not run) and my Brooks green coat from Saturday... which I am going to name Green Machine. Also wore my green visor to keep the rain out of my face.
It was so cold. I thought my hands would fall off (Bob said I needed to get some gloves on Saturday). The kids got on the bus and I took off. The bus was heading in the same direction and it was fun to see the kids on the bus at a couple of intersections. I decided to run to the school to see if I could beat the bus. The school is 2 miles from the house. I ran the same path as the school bus (well, I was on the sidewalk), I waited at every cross walk (like the bus had to wait at every light), and guess what? I BEAT the bus to school.
Mile #1 Split: 7:57
Mile #2 Split: 8:34
I stood in front of the school and when the kids got off the bus, I said, "what took you so long"! They were so excited and said that they saw me from the window and were cheering me on. I LOVE it.
I had not plan to run to the school, so I had to quickly figure out how I was going to get 3 more miles in. I decided to head into the neighborhood near the school and then back onto the trail along Gude.
Mile #3 Split: 9:17
Mile #4 Split: 9:19
I like to finish my runs with a negative split, so with a huge downhill in sight, I decided to see if I could beat mile #1 time. I got to the bottom of the hill with .7 miles left and was on track. I had to wait a tiny bit at the light, but then took off for my house. I was practically sprinting.
Mile #5 Split: 7:32 - wow... that is fast... faster than I will ever run at the marathon (maybe for the last .2, I will be able to run that fast... just maybe after 26 miles, I will have it in me.)
When I got home, I stripped off my wet clothes and took a LONG HOT shower. I debated about getting back into bed with Dolce, but decided, I should make the most of this day.
What do you do when it is raining? Hit the treadmill? Skip your run? Or just run it like me?

Holy speed Batman! Part of me wishes I ran this morning, but I needed the day off. If it's pouring and I am running solo, I usually hit up the treadmill, but if G is meeting me, I suck it up and head out in the rain!
I agree with T. Part of me is wishing I had gotten in my little miles this morning when it wasn't raining so hard. Now it will be the treadmill or having the neighbors all say what a bad mom I am for taking the little guy out in this weather! (the jogger has a weather shield)
I like your thoughts though. About the weather on race morning. If it is raining I would have still ran on race day so tomorrow I will try and use that to get myself out the door ~ when the neighbors will still be alseep or milking cows. ;-)
I bet your kids thought you were a Super Hero, GREAT GREAT story!!
Hmmm I live in Washington, I strap on a hat and go for it. I also have good rain gear.
HUGS TO YOUR MARATHON BEING THIS MONTH!!!!!!!!
Nice job on that last mile. I don't run in the rain. It doesn't rain too much here, so it's not too big of a deal for me.
You know, I always opt for the treadmill (because I actually like it) and I like the way you think about your runs... you never know what you are going to run in come race day, so you might as well run in the rain. I will have to remember that!
I run! Of course I run, it would silly NOT to run. And your theory is correct - if it's raining on race day, you will be running in the rain. By training in it you're preparing yourself for the 1 thing you absolutely cannot control on race day.
Not much keeps me inside. Go you!!
Good for you! Glad you got the rainy run in. I'm a bit of a rain wimp, I have to say.
Having previously lived in Seattle, I didn't know what it was like to run in sunshine! Since moving to a much preferred climate, I've become a fair weather runner. I either cross train or run on a treadmill if it's raining outside.
Good for you for getting out there is the cold and braving the weather. Glad to hear you are feeling good.
