So I decided to take a picture for all of you experts out there. Your thoughts, advice, and warm wishes have meant the world to me.
I prayed. I rested yesterday. I iced it. I took an Aleve. I rest it more and prayed a lot more. Today, I was not going to run in the o'dark since hubby was home due to it being Labor Day and all. So at 7am, I decided to lace up and test my leg. I even wore my red Marine Corps Marathon 2010 In Training shirt to give me a little mojo.
I began cautious. Not too fast, and guess what... it STILL HURT. Now it wasn't as bad as yesterday. I was going to go around the block but by the 3rd house, I decided not to push it. I wanted to run. I wanted the pain to be gone. I prayed for all of this.
I walked home a little defeated. I iced it while reading my class assignment. I took another Aleve. Around noon, my leg looked like this:
Now the bruise is from the treadmill fall... but what is all of that red puffiness? (Click image to view bigger) Is that just a shin splint?
I guess I need more rest. And I WILL take more rest. Honestly, I have enough mileage that if I rested all week, I could still do the 1/2 on Sunday. I might just call and get and appointment with my Sports Doc tomorrow.... but hopefully, I wake up and the pain is gone. And the strange thing is that it does NOT hurt if I run barefoot (I know all of you barefoot runners out there will confirm this... but I am not ready to go there... especially not at my first marathon).
I have plenty of time to figure this out before my marathon on October 31st.... and perhaps it is the over training that is the cause of it. I have "experts" looking over my plan... and I hope their changes hold the answers.

Dang! I am so sorry that this has happened! Take it from a "hard headed it will be better tomorrow runner": if it hurts, stay off of it. I think going to the sports doc is an excellent idea...that'll take the guesswork out of it. Thinking about you...and hope you feel better VERY soon!
Are you doing tons of icing?
rest rest rest. ice ice ice. aleve! you are doing the right thing. take it easy. don't push it even though everything in you absolutely wants to. even if you had to take off a week to ten days you've got a TREMENDOUS base. i pushed it when i should not have at all and had to call it quits at week 14 last fall. it was devastating to me. i'll be praying for you. :)
I agree with Kate - taking a week off is not going to be the END ALL.
I agree rest. If that doesn't help, getting a doctor's opinion. Better know now than be sidelined later.
poor thing...praying for you! rest and ice and get to that doc. HUGS!
Jen - so hoping that the pain goes away. Hopefully you are able to get in to see a sports medicene dr. As Shelly said earlier - better to check it out now and only be off a few days - rather than a major injury and be out for weeks.
Sending healing prayers your way!
Checking in - hoping that your leg feels better. ;-)
I hope you've been able to see a sports med doc...I hate to use these words, but I'm worried a bit about a stress fracture. Hopefully I am completely wrong!
If you are better, though, and end up doing Parks tomorrow, shoot me an email...would love to meet up! misszippy1@gmail.com
