I RAN.... oh sweet bliss

I know I have kept you waiting... I have just been so excited.

First things first: I went to my Dr. on Friday morning and got good and bad news. The good news is that I do not have a stress fracture in my shin area... but I do have a bruise on the tibia. I guess I fell harder than I thought on that treadmill fall. He said that I could ease into running and that the marathon was definitely doable, if I listened to my body and rest when I need to rest.

Bad news: The MRI showed a possible fracture in the ankle area, but it did not hurt when he pushed on the area where it would be. And to date, I have not had ankle pain. he concluded that since the MRI was not dedicated to the ankle and that I have had no pain, that it was probably a false read. If I start to have pain there, then I should immediately get an MRI. I asked, if that could be causing the pain in my leg and he said, "NO!"

So yesterday, I met Bob at 6:30 and we went out for an easy jog. My plan was to run 5 miles no matter how good I felt, but if there was pain, I was going to stop. We did a 3minute run/ 1 minute walk combo.

And 7 miles and 1 hour and 21 minutes later, I was back at my driveway. I know, I said I wasn't going to run more than 5, but we had to get home... it really wasn't on purpose - we ran a loop. And my shin area did not give me any trouble (or the ankle if you are wondering).

By mile 6, my joints started to ache... my knees and hips. It wasn't painful, just more annoying. I stretched... and today I feel great. And because I feel so great, I am going to REST!!!! I think this week, I am going to ease back into running.

Here is my plan and this is based on the theory that I am feeling no pain from the previous day:

Sunday: REST
Monday: 3-4 miles

Tuesday: REST
Wednesday: 5 miles
Thursday: REST
Friday: X-Train
Saturday: 10-13 miles depending on how I feel.

So what do you think? How was your long run yesterday? I saw that some of you did 20+ miles... I am quite jealous. I won't see those numbers until marthon day.

awesome news! ease back into and bump up your minutes with the run/walk ratio. when my hip hurt earlier this summer when i was finishing hals intermediate "spring training", i eased into the marathon training with the run/walk ratio. i've stuck with it and my pain has been gone for a month now. i'm up to 8/1 sometimes 9/1. i've read how it can significantly reduce risk of injuries too.
good luck! so happy for you!
