So after doing some research this morning and talking to a couple of my running pals, I think I have Achilles tendon issues.
Good news: I think I know why. I wore sandals without backs when we did our walking tour of the Bahamas - seriously, we walked probably 3 miles up some big hills. And then yesterday, I walked home from a friends in a different pair of flip floppy sandals - it wasn't a long walk - but that is all I can attribute the pain too. I have not stretched that tendon enough and thus it is screaming for stretches.
Goodbye: I am going to put all of these sandals away... and only wear approved shoes for walking.
More Good news: Since my marathon is not until the end of October, I can take a rest day. I can take time "off" to stretch, to recover.
I am so thankful that I am learning how to listen to my body and take the time to stretch and strengthen my body at the same time.
For all of those who are running races this weekend and doing long runs, I am praying for strength and safety!
P.S. Remember, it was Paris who shot his arrow (and Apollo who guided his arrow) into Achilles - thus killing the Greek hero of the Trojan War. Didn't think you would get a little lesson in Greek Mythology this morning, did you?
Happy Weekend!!!!!

AH, sorry about your Achilles, but glad you have time to rest and let it heal!
welcome to the Achilles Club. This is what benched me. I am getting better, icing, massaging, talking lovingly to it (and sometimes cursing it).
Hope yours feels better soon.
Maybe some offerings to Apollo would do. We are reading Odyssey with my son and it seems that killing a bull, eating the good parts but burning bones and leftovers for the gods would do. I don't have a bull to sacrifice though. :)
Enjoy the day of rest!
Definitely the sandals! I try not to wear my beloved flip flops if I'm going to be walking around a lot. I hope the day off helps.
Glad to hear you are going to take some rest to let that achilles heal. :)
Rest up and I hope your heel heals quickly!
LISTEN to your body....sooo important.. thanks for the history lesson, learn something new every day :)
Thank goodness I have Blog Friends like you who can help me with conversation topics for dinner. Seriously, with a 10 year old in the house, I am ALL caught up on Percy Jackson and the Olympians... now maybe I will be more able to follow along. Or is that Greek or Roman? I swear, true story, I almost failed 8th grade english because of the GODS.
(so, this is going to sound odd, since we don't really know each other, but I was driving on Saturday and got a memo to pray for you, so I will pray for a speedy recovery of your tendon)
hope it heals SOON!
