Friday is for Family!

Since today is Friday, I decided to take my children to see my parents. I think they are feeling a little down and I know the kids will cheer them up. My father lost his job after 43 years with the same company and at 60, it isn't easy finding a job. Thankfully, the Lord continues to bless them. They were able to sell their house quickly and without issue and they are living in their RV - which is like a house - I mean their RV even has a washer and dryer - think ROCK STAR - this is where they are living. Of course usually you don't pack it full of essentials for the rest of your life, plus two adorable pugs, so it is a little cramped. They are enjoying each others company and my mother is even eating lunch (I tend to call them every time they are eating). My mother usually never eats lunch. Another blessing from the Lord, is that my father decided to take a class at the community college and is really excited. And job opportunities may be forthcoming. Of course, trusting in the Lord makes it much easier.

As for yesterday, I did not run my planned 3-5 miles for a couple of reasons:
  1. It was SOOOOO WiNdY. I mean we had gusts up to 14mph. Isn't too bad you say, but remember, I would have been pushing baby in the jogger (can we say, poor baby?)
  2. An since I had Baby A, I had to run in the neighborhood (you know, main roads dangerous) - did you see my post yesterday about my hiLLS?
So WiNd + hiLLS + Baby A = No running for me (or for whimpy runners like me).

When hubby got home, we did do Core Synergistics and for those of you who are doing P90X - this one stinks too. It was hard... and my sides hurt today from those "Banana and Boat Rolls". Tonight is Kenpo X and I will still get my long run in on Saturday - wind or no wind.

Hope everyone has a nice weekend and if you have a race, let me know. I will pray for you to finish strong and injury free (and I may even add in there a little speed too!).

Also, the faithful UPS man delivered my new camera last night. The battery charged all night and so I will get to test it today at my parent's place. It should be ready and tested for the long run tomorrow.

To me the UPS guy that has been delivering in our area for at least 10 years is like a Santa. I only wish they got rid of those ugly brown outfits.
It is very windy here also but since I don't have to push a baby jogger I have not excuse. I guess I could drive to the Y but somehow I think I would rather do the wind than treadmill.
Have a fun long run tomorrow.

That is so inspiring that your parents are adapting so nicely to job loss after so many years. I worry about my parents as time goes on, especially my mom seems to have a smaller and smaller comfort zone.
I love that your dad is taking a class. Kudos to them!
Wind is not my friend either. You are no wimp. Have a great weekend!

Sounds like you have a fun day planned for the family. enjoy

Your father must be pretty resilient and he obviously has a good attitude. It can't be easy looking for a new job or changing careers at 60

Have a great weekend

you know, it's a blessing they have the RV. and pugs don't mind small spaces. (at least mine doesn't!)
Taking a day off isn't the end of the world. plus, the sides hurting is awesome! love that feeling!

Have a great weekend. enjoy that camera!

Sounds like a great day! Enjoy the time with your parents! We're actually having a SNOW DAY here, unheard of! There went my sub job for the day, oh well. About to slug out a 4 mile run in it and actually think it will be kind of fun, we shall see... :)

Have a nice visit with your folks. Sorry to hear about your father's work. However, it does sound like positive things are coming from the change. God has a plan. It's just beyond where our eyes can see!

Enjoy the long run this weekend.

Good luck to your dad. That is tough.

Congrats on the new camera! My dad's out of work as well, going on 1 1/2 years - its tough. My parents see my kids about once a week, and I know it's the highlight of their day!

Yikes on the wind! We have a weather shield for our BOB, but I think, when windy, that it makes it super difficult to push. Sorry to hear about your Dad. Good for him for taking the class - awesome!

sorry to hear about your dad, but glad they are doing well. i'm sure it was a challenge to enroll in the class - but that is awesome of him! hope for the best for them with whatever they decide to do next.

How do you like p90x? I was going to start the regular p90 since I am getting the discs from a friend no charge. Is it fun and do you enjoy doing the various workouts?
