A little heart thing...

I know you have been waiting, but I needed to finish my RIC recap. Its done... did you read all three parts?

Anyway, so back to the cardiologist appointments:

Cardiologist #1: Okay, this was a "guy" from the same practice as the cardiologist that saw me in the ER. He seemed nice enough. He seemed to know what he was talking about and how we should proceed EP Study and Ablasion.

Editor's note: "An EP study is a procedure known as an electrophysiology study, which is conducted to determine the cause of heart arrhythmia. Depending on the results of the EP study, your doctor may recommend undergoing a catheter ablation to treat the arrhythmia. A catheter ablation is one of a number of procedures that could result from an EP study, and is one of the most common."

But his comment right at the end sealed his fate:

Me: "So can I run Richmond marathon in 2 days?"
Doc: "Yeah... sure. But I'm against you guys doing that anyway."
Me: "You guys?"
Doc: "You know, women and endurance sports!"
Me: "So you are sexist and not an athlete."
Doc: uncomfortable laugh

I left knowing my options and at the time the ONLY one that mattered was that I could run Richmond (and I did... btw: Did you check out the three part recap?)

This past Thursday I got a second opinion. This doctor came referred by my GP and several DC Tri MoCo members, so I figured it was worth the shot. After a few little "front office staff glitches", I met Dr. S and he had the SAME diagnosis and recommendation, but the difference was: He was a runner. Well, you know the ones that run a marathon every 10 years (he said he was due one, his 30s was slipping away, of course I suggested Richmond!)

So this all brings us to today. Yes... today. I am heading to the Hospital to get my heart zapped and ablated (is that a word?). I slept really well. I am confident that we found this little hiccup early and I will be healthy a ready to run... soon.

The little 10k Turkey Trot where I had hoped to PR... is a DNS. My plan is to be back for the DC Hot Chocolate 15k on December 3rd... and then... who knows.

I would covet your prayers this morning around 8am EST. I am in the BEST hands in the world. My God knows me and knows EXACTLY what needs to be done. (Can I get an AMEN?)

Oh my gosh, I just saw this. I hope everything went well. You're in my prayers. I've had a couple heart issues myself (nothing too serious!) and they can really weigh on your mind.

Post when you can!
