Friday's Fret, Fact, and Fun

Fret - I am down to 7 toenails. Yes.... Lost the 3rd one Monday night. I am still 2 months out of Richmond. Not sure how this will bode for the remaining 7. I am thankful the weather is cooler so I can bring out my boots... the kids are making fun of me! I need to figure out why. I have been getting blisters on the tips of my toes each long run over 16. These are also the ONLY runs I have been wearing Runningskirts.com compression socks. Coincidence? My shoes are 8.5 and I wear 6.5 in regular shoes. And let me repeat... NO issues on runs shorter than 16. Hmmmm.

Fact - My body is tired. Very tired. Lack of sleep (unable to turn my brain off) and early morning runs (before hubby leaves for work) has left me fatigued. This week, the MTP called for: 4, 9, 4, 9, X, 10, Rest. I ran 22.65 with Bob last Saturday (oh, don't worry... working on that blog post now)... so I decided to change my plan a little. I ran 7 instead of a 9 and I may skip X tomorrow. I am pleased that I only have 10 on Saturday, but the temps will be perfect... (hold me back).

Fun - I worked with a RRCA coach to start a running club at our elementary school. We originally wanted to limit the club to 25 students; 2nd-5th grade to train them for a local kids race - Halloween Fun Run which is 1 mile. We were overwhelmed with the response. We had over 75 applicants and were forced to institute a lottery system. We decided to break it up into two groups 2nd & 3rd graders and 4th & 5th graders and this way would allow 50 students to participate. The 2nd and 3rd graders were fun... loud and excited. When we paced them at a 1/4 of a mile, they were averaging 7:15 pace... we hope to drop that down so they can finish the entire mile without walk... we have 5 weeks. The 4th and 5th graders are today... and I cannot wait. Most of the lesson is games and the kids do not even know they are running. It is exciting to motivate kids and to share my passion of running.

Your poor feet. :( I am only down 2.75 toenails. Yeah. 2.75. LOL And I have only ever ran 13.1 once (working up to another in 2 weeks). My shoes seem to fit just fine but apparently I pull my toes up when I run? Weird. Anyway, I hope the blister issue and lack of toenails improves for you. I use to love wearing open toed shoes, now not.so.much!
I hope you also get some rest soon! Being tired is the worst feeling (I think).

Oh, the toes! I would try different socks. Do you lube your toes when you run longer? I thought it sounded crazy, but I got my first blister once I pushed past 16 so I gave it a shot the next long run. Multiple long runs later and a few 20+'s and only one other blister! (all toenails still intact-bonus!)
The fun run sounds so SO awesome!
And yes, when you don't post, you are missed. :)

The toes. Maybe your shoes are too big? I had that issue once and ended up with nearly every toe being bruised from my heel sliding out of the heel box and allowing my toes to strike the front of the shoe. I didn't realize it on shorter runs and ended up wearing them on race day. Not fun! I usually only go up one size between regular shoes and running shoes but I think trial and error is key to figuring out (in each brand/style) what the right size really is. Oh and season will impact your foot's tendency to swell while running. Good Luck.

Of course you are tired. With so little body fat your fatigue a bit more quickly with all the training you are doing! I could never make it if I actually got my "extra" weight off! I'd say you are right on with little adjustments to your schedule.

WoooHoo! Love that you had such a great response to your running club. That's fantastic that the kids and their parents are intereted in being active. (Ok, the parents want the kids to be active but hopefully they will use that time to get off their tushies too!)
