Letter to Long Run

Dear Long Run,

I am sorry I bailed on you. Its not you, its me! Yes, it is true that Saturday mornings have been our time together for the last 15 months, but I had to join the group ride. I mean the thought of riding 40 miles all by myself seemed daunting.

I had all intentions of spending Sunday afternoon with you, but my legs, yeah... they checked out early. I have said A LOT recently that a long run is anything over 10 miles; but I just could not bring it.

Maybe I started out to fast. Maybe it was too hot. Maybe all of the negative thoughts were too much ("Its hot."  "I'm thirsty."  "My legs hurt." "This sucks!"  "I'm so over this run already!"). Maybe running on legs that had gone where they had never gone before wasn't the best idea.

I only managed 7.85. I had to stop and catch my breath at 4. I was barely moving up a large him at a 9:40 pace around mile 5. It was tough. I waited at the light instead of racing across the intersection like I have done EVERY other time at mile 6. The down hill at mile 6.5 felt awesome, but the flat area till mile 7 was painful. I wanted to quit. I guess I did quit. I never saw 10 miles. I'm sorry.

I have to figure out how to get group rides in and long runs. It is just a matter of planning. It might mean that I change up your day to earlier in the week. How does Wednesday sound? Okay, great! Its a date!

Love,

Jen

Jen, your comment on my blog came at a funny time...I was in the middle of writing a guest post for Zaneta over at Runner's Luck. I hope you will go and read the post whenever Z posts it. When you read it you will see the irony of your comment :-) Don't worry, nothing bad!!!

Wednesday is my long run day:) we can compare notes! It will come. I don't know much about Tri training, but my friend tends to spend more time on her bike than running and she does half ironmans. P.S.. it is hot here. I made it 4 miles today before I needed to stop and get a drink. I am definitely not prepared for the heat. i better get with it!

I bailed on one of my long runs this training session, it was a 10 miler and I went 7.5. And I was done! We will see if it made a difference when I run my half on Sunday. (I did do 11, 12 & 13 in the following weeks).
