A 8 second PR (officially): UPDATE

So I have waited all day to publish my PR notice, but the results still have NOT been posted. UGH!

Race Recap:

This morning, I "raced" the MCRRC New Year's Day 2011 5k race. It was a gorgeous day... and of course I second guessed myself and slipped tights under my skirt (despite finding matching knee highs at Target) and ended up being too hot.

The family decided at the last second literally, to join me. Brock snapped this picture before we left. The glowing "light" is the FuelBelt logo on my new race belt. Did I ever mention how much I had safety pinning bibs to my clothes? Well, this belt worked perfect. You will see more later.

We get in the car and drive a mile and I realized I forgot my Garmin... so I insisted we turn around. I grabbed my sun glasses too. I think I was all flustered that the family was coming with me. I did mention that I wish I had a personal photographer that would come to races with me... and my husband obliged this time.

This was obviously the first race of the season and local club members had to turn in their 2010 chips and get new 2011 chips and bibs... so I expected a crowd and boy was I right. I am actually glad hubby decided to come with me so he could understand why I get to races an hour early... the line was almost out the door. The start time was actually delayed a little too because of the crowd.

I got my bib and chip... my number for the year is 157.... not a number that I feel good about. I guess it = 13, but that is the ONLY positive I see in the number. My lucky 33 is lost to another soul... I hope they race hard!

Before the race started I saw a cute girl with impeccable taste and chatted her up a bit. I forget her name (UPDATE: her name was Candida and she recently moved here from CA, so it was cool to meet someone new just because we were rocking the same skirt! I hope to see her around again... so we can skirt together!

I saw her again after we finished and she said she had a good race. (Once the results are published, I will add her name).

The race started and I forgot it was a repeat loop course and super boring. I was pleased with my start but when my Garmin read 7:05 for the first 1/2 mile, I knew I needed to back down. As I mentined hubby was there to serve as official photographer, he got this great shot of me. I have to admit at this point in the race, I thought the chick in the bra and shorts was NUTS, but a mile later, I was ready to shed my top too. My kids were super excited to see me here too and I loved that they could see me race.

By mile 2.5, I was hot and tired. My friend M passed me and I wished I could have hung with her... she was racing strong and I believe would have made the minor PR a major one.

Ignore my belly hanging out!
And as I approached the finish line, I knew I needed to book it... actually my last .2 was a 6:55 pace... now that is fast.

Total time: 23:47 (PR by 8 seconds) and a GREAT way to start 2011. I will be posting my goals and resolutions soon.
How did you kick off your 2011 running or triathlon season?

Great job Jen - way to start the New Year with a PR.

Awesome job and your outfit is adorable! I was thinking about running a new years 5 mile dash this morning - but it was really cold and windy. Negative 4 -- decided I would skip the run.
