Back in the saddle again...

On Saturday, my goal was to run for 3 hours... how ever far that took me. My trusted partner Bob was with me and we did the 3:1, run:walk. It was good to try this for 3 hours to see how my body would feel. Bob had never run more than 2.5 hours before, so I wanted to take him there. (Remember, my 18.5 miler was in 3:07).

To say that I was nervous about my first long run since my injury would be a complete understatement. I even woke up on Thursday morning at 2:30 after a nightmare about it. I took to Facebook that morning and got lots of love and support... G said, "relax, it's just like riding a bike!!! And don't forget to have FUN!" It was AWESOME to see that encouragement before heading out... I was forgetting that it should be FUN!

After some minor technical difficulty, we slipped run into the 3:1. It was a nice rhythm. There was actually a relay race on part of the course. A 4 day race (I think) that was over 168 miles... the first guy that passed us said that he was running 29 miles... WOW! It was pretty cool to be out there while these ultra runners were racing because this type of race had no fans... so as they passed us, Bob and I cheered for them... and you could tell it helped!

We ran 1.5 hours out and turned around. Besides feeling a little fatigued in my lower half, I was feeling good. By 13, my knees and hips were just saying hello. It was nice. I was feeling good. I did try my choice #1 outfit for the marathon... and it worked well.

And even though we only ran 15.7 miles in 3 hours, I decided that running for 3 hours still equalled an ice bath. The rest of the day, my legs felt tired, but no pain. Sunday morning, I had a little ache in my left arch, but it is better today. I have decided to start back on my MTP... but a new one. I'm going to back down to Hal's Novice II... probably where I should have been before.

This week's plan is:

Sunday: REST
Monday: 5 miles
Tuesday: 8 miles
Wednesday: 5 miles
Thursday: REST
Friday: Cross
Saturday: 12 miles

And if all goes well this week, I will attempt my 20 miler (again) next Saturday. Then TAPER BABY!!!!!
What does your running plan call for this week?

So glad you are feeling good! Go nail that 20 next week.

I am in the midst of my heavy miles now. Did 55 last week and this week will cut back a bit. I love this stuff!

I am glad you made it. I think the walk:run is a great idea. Don't worry about speed on your next run and good luck!! Sounds like you weren't that tired after 3 hours - that's awesome!

Great job, Jen!!! So glad to hear you're back at it!

I'm on for 4/8/4/16 this week. I'm due for a good 16 miles. I apparently can't have two good long runs in a row. My 15 on Saturday was bad, so 16 should rock. :)

"only ran 15.7 miles" ha! That's a long distance, however long it takes. You deserved that ice bath!
