Vacation? Who has time for a vacation?

This is how the conversation went:

Lyle: So, when are you going to have a Saturday free?
Me: Why?
Lyle: So we can go on vacation?
Me: Free from what?
Lyle: Running?
Me: Um.... November!
Lyle: What?!?!
Me: I have long runs EVERY Saturday until the marathon. I can't just not do it. I mean, I can do the long runs on vacation.

Lyle: I don't want you running by yourself.
Me: Well, you can pick a spot on the beach and I can run 3 miles away from you and back on one side, and then the other... that makes 12... and if I did it again on one side, it would be 18.

Lyle: That is CRAZY!
Me: Yeah... well, so is training for a marathon.

I think I know why people do not run marathons. Not because they can't physically but because it is a HUGE time commitment. HUGE! I KNOW that I cannot just skip a run... because I will pay for it at my next run.

On the flip side (Facebook followers already read this), I took advantage of the kids in Vacation Bible School this morning and ran in the daylight. I know, right? I novel idea! It was hot - the sun was hiding but the HUMIDITY was out of this world. I ran 7 miles in 1:04:03.

Mile Splits:

1 – 9:13
2 – 9:04
3 – 9:17
4 – 9:12
5 – 9:17
6 – 8:52 (coming down a huge Hill!)
7 – 9:01

I am getting faster and best of all... having FUN!

Oh, and I am thinking about getting my hair cut and colored. What do you think about this look?

In 2007, my hair was styled like this...

But if  I was brave enough, I would get it colored like this... could a 33 year old mother of 2 pull this off?

Yes you can totally pull it off. I had pink hair earlier this year and I loved it. I just didn't love maintaining it. And you are right, training for a marathon is crazy. But it's a good crazy. I will be running my second 20 miler while on vacation and am planning on a 5 mile out and back in two different directions to get it done. I totally feel you.

Do it! The hair cut would be so cute on you.

Ugh...I am having the marathon scheduling issues too except life keeps getting in the way and my training gets pushed back. I hope you go on an awesome vacation. I like your idea of running 3 miles in either direction.

Do it. Red doesn't stay in that long anyway, so even if it seems too crazy, you'll have to redo the red or it will fade.

Do it - because you really won't do it when you are 54. ;-) I have always wanted a color streak in my hair - I would do purple.

The humidity is relentless this summer - ya just can't get away from it. Even if the temperature is reasonable - the humidity is crazy.

I have only run 1 marathon ... the reason isn't the actual race - it is the training. It is just so time consuming. I just don't want to commit to that much time (although I am pretty much doing that this summer with the MS 150 bike ride)- that is a huge commitment.

Keep at it. You will be glad you did.

It's always a juggling act to run and not totally disrupt everyone else's time! Good luck.

I am digging your 2007 hair and the photos you're considering. Love it!

I'll have a long run in Florida the end of the month, but I know the area we are staying and it's a great spot for running. I'm looking forward to it!

YES! I LOVE the cut and color!

And, if you just come to Richmond or Williamsburg on your vacation, you won't have to run alone. There you go - Done and Done. Think about it - Jamestown, Yorktown, Williamsburg, 2 theme parks right there next to a HUGE outlet mall. There you go - problem solved.

Yep, marathon training is an enormous time commitment. You have to plan everything around it! Hopefully you can work out a family vacation.

so i have hydration and eating issues too. they def make me conk faster than other people. i would say experient with the clif shot bloks. i love margarita but others are like berry etc. if you like beans those will be similar. i assume you can't get past the gu-i-ness of the gels. i actually like the crank sports ones and the stinger gels. the consistency is better i think.

also, i drink watered down gatorade and if i have a water bottle i throw in a tab of sugar and salt (gross but you barely notice it!!)
