Change of plans

If you haven't figured it out, I am planner. I have every detailed planned... even "spontaneous fun" - really, I plan that too. If I do not have a schedule planned out - I WORRY. I am hate to worry.

And sometimes, the best laid plans FAIL! This week my marathon training plan calls for:

Monday  - 4 miles
Tuesday - 8 miles
Wednesday  - 4 miles
Thursday - 8 miles
Friday - X train
Saturday - 16 miles
Sunday - Rest

The problem with the plan this week is that I am travelling to NC again and I have to do 16 miles. Now those who are not in training just do NOT understand. 16 miles is LONG! To do it by myself is HARD. And to do it on strange turf is even HARDER!

So I have decided to change my plan. (and this was the real reason I ran 16 on Saturday... 16 was on my brain because I was planning it all out!)

Monday - 4 miles
Tuesday - 8 miles
Wednesday - 4 miles
Thursday - 16 miles
Friday - rest
Saturday - 8 miles
Sunday - X train

And by scheduling 16 miles on a Thursday means:
  1. hiring a babysitter - $$$$
  2. doing it alone
  3. wearing a iPod since I am running alone (which I RARELY do)
Do you have any strategies to help me get through 16 miles alone? I know I can do it... I did it on Saturday... but I had Bob. Thursday it will be just me. Also do you see anything with the new plan that you would tweak?

Oh, and I got my hair "did". I did not go as bold as I had wanted, but I like it. The color is dark brown and a scarlet... and the scarlet is hard to see in the picture but it is the lighter strands. The picture really doesn't do it justice. It took 3 hours - I am not used to spending so much time on myself... it made out for a good day though.

The hair looks great!

I think you have put together a really nice switch in the schedule. I often do the same when I am traveling for all the same reasons. As to getting through the 16 solo--can you do it as an out and back? For some reason, that strategy always helps me on long solo runs. Just try to lose yourself in the run and the time will move faster than you expect. Good luck with it!

LOVE the hair. I have a similar, but longer style and it does get easier to do.

Long runs? I'm no help. 12 is the longest I've ever done and I'm completely dependent on my Ipod for it. I've not found someone that I like running with for training. :( Good luck, I know you can do it!

Your hair looks fab!

We are so alike. I plan my spon taeous fun too! And I alway swap runs around to fit into my crazy mommy schedule. I really don't have tips. The last time I did a long run like that alone, that wasn't on the treadmill was forever ago. But I am planning on running MCM Mama's 40K solo this weekend. so anything you learn needs to be passed on!

You can totally handle the 16! Music will help. Run a familiar route close to home incase you need to swing by for a pit stop or refill. I find that helps break it up.

You did good on the hair.

Great job tweaking the schedule. Just 4 little 4 mile runs. You will do great!
