Code Red

I hope everyone had an awesome July 4th celebration. We did eat July 4th food, but did not see any fireworks except on TV. This is Day 5 of Kiera's fever... so hopefully it will subside soon.

We have a Code Red today - back to typical Maryland weather in July. I ran at 6am... 3 miles in 27:58. I think I run better in the even. And when I write better, I mean faster. I did loops today with hills in it, but my pace slowly declined:

Mile 1: 9:11
Mile 2: 9:14
Mile 3: 9:33

It was hot but it is the humidity that gets to me. I find it strange that I sweat in places that I usually do not sweat... like from my inner elbows and my upper lip. I ended my measly 3 mile run with a chapped upper lip because I kept rubbing the sweat off of my lip.
Do you sweat from strange places when you run?
Week 2 of the Marathon Training Plan is going to be a little tougher.... not because of the runs, but because it will be 99 degrees all week with over 80% humidity. Thankfully, my parents are still here so I can run early, but not sure I would be able to manage evening runs with the humidity. How is your training coming? Any obstacles? Here is the week:

Monday: 3 miles
Tuesday: 5 miles
Wednesday: 3 miles
Thursday: 5 miles
Friday: Cross (hopefully swim)
Friday: 11 miles

Deck Progress:  Slowly but surely. With the Code Red, Lyle and my father are working from 5:30 am to 11am and then from 5:30 to dark. Here is the latest picture. Can you see Dolce at the door. She enjoys the action around the house. Best of all, my mother brought her pug too, SweetPea and they have a blast playing together. I think they will really miss each other when the deck is finally finished. Dolce is the one on her back... she loves lying on her back. SweetPea is 5 years old and Dolce is 1.5 years old.

The humidity kills me too. Great job on the run!

That's a pretty even run!
The heat is really a problem. I'm planning to get up at 6 am to run tomorrow....but I have to be back by 7 so my husband can catch his train.

I find it so hard to run when it's hot - even the evenings are warm!
Deck is looking good, I spent all day yesterday painting ours ;-)

So totally agree about humidity. I just got back from an 8 mile run. I would normally be out of the door before 6:00 AM - but held off until 10 this morning. I just checked the weather and the temp was 78 and the humitity 76% . . . which makes for a moist run . . . there just doesn't seem any way to get a good breath - since the air is so heavy. But I will be running my 1/2 marathon August 21, and although last year the temperatures were actually quite cool during the race - I don't want to count on it - so I am making sure to do a few training runs later in the morning - so I have to deal with the warmer temp's and higher humidity. It was a slow steady pace this morning - with a couple of walking breaks . . . and I was OK with that.

Happy 4th.

The deck is looking great Jen! good for Lyle and your dad working at cool times. i love your question on the strange sweating places as mine is my shins. that is my gage for how hot and humid it is outside. It is supposed to be 98 here in NH tomorrow and I am nervous about my 9 am 3 miler. it is my first week of Marathon training. i am a little nervous, but swam today for my cross train. let's just say i am a much better runner than swimmer. stay cool!
