Yesterday it rained all day. Not a hard rain, just a light drizzle... but I was unable to run with the baby and jogger as I do not have a rain cover. So I waited until my husband was home and to go on my run.
I did not have a plan, but I was feeling great. I decided to run to Rockville and back. Total mileage was 9.1 miles ... on a MONDAY! I know... it was hard to believe. For all but one mile, my pace was under 10 minutes. I was thrilled. At mile 3, I smelled the sweet smell of honeysuckles. And boy did they bring back memories from my childhood.
We grew up on lots of land and had lots of woods. I remember learning how to taste the honeysuckle very early... probably in 2nd grade and it was so much fun. I did have to avoid the poison ivy that always loomed around the honeysuckle as I was high allergic to it. The smell of the honeysuckle lasted for several miles. It was nice to remember my fun filled days as a child.
The rain continued and I had my visor on so it really did not bother me. It was kind of refreshing. The only negative was that for 3 miles I had to run on concrete sidewalks and my shins and left foot felt it.
Last night, I also met my impromptu running partner from a couple Saturdays ago, Bob and his family. It was important for me to meet his wife to make sure she was okay with us running together. I also met his son. I showed up and Bob had a glass of wine for me. I politely declined, but he told me to drink it. It was Gatorade in a wine glass. Too cute. His wife mentioned she also ran with TNT... so maybe Bob and I can get her out on the trail with us one day.
Hopefully, this is a beginning of a beautiful running friendship!

Wow! 9 miles is a long way!
You're smart to make sure your running buddy's wife is ok with everything!
Sounds like a great run. love running in the rain and how smells can bring back such great memories.
Great job on the 9+!
Too funny having gatorade in a wine glass. Only runners....
Congrats on a great run.
Smells of spring are the best.
Ah honeysuckle and running in the rain! Sounds lovely :)
I love running 9 miles. One of my favorite distances. Just right to be long but not too long :)
I've just started running with a single guy who's young & v/ good looking... he's the one who's making sure that H is fine with it. H is, because every mile I run with Dave is a mile I'm not alone on the roads!
Speaking of running alone versus running in a group, I joined MTT for the Marathon this year because TMB isn't going to run the marathon, so she probably won't do all the runs. Somewhere on the worst 20 mile run ever T & I got separated for a mile or two, and i thought, this would be really dangerous in the heat, alone, if I didn't know T was right behind me (about 1/4 mile). At any major turn I would stop and look back to see if she was still chugging along, and eventually she caught up with me. We realized that 20 miles alone is a long tedious run, beyond the safety of having someone know when they should call 911. There was also a friend of ours who got lost on his 20, ended up running 23, ran out of water, was an hour late getting back to his house - his pregnant wife is freaking out trying to figure out if it's time to call the cops- all because he was running a 20 miler alone. So, unless you have a really good group to run with, or just plan to run 6 - 7 mile loops around your house checking in every hour, I would consider the tedium of running alone versus joining a training team. Wish you could join me here.
I really don't mind running in the rain either. It's all about getting out the door and then it's not so bad. Love that you met your new friend's family. Very cool
I loooovvvveeee Honey suckle last summer we had it covering all of fences! and every time the breeze blew I was taking back to when I was a little girl...unfortunately we had to kill the vines because Poison Ivy took it over completely and I cannot have two little babies getting poison Ivy!! I wanted to cry :(
Running in the rain can be so refreshing. I'm glad that you enjoyed the evening. Yeah for nine miles! The Gatorade in the wine glass is so cute.
Thanks for stopping by Jen, your words meant alot to me, I'm back on track and have no intentions of giving up.
I stopped P90X however am looking at possibly getting back at it once the half marathon is done, my focus right now is getting back on track and continuing the running.
Jen, you look fantastic! Congrats!
I don't mind the rain unless it is freezing out and raining. I can take either one but don't like them together.
Wow, 9 miles on a Monday -- great job.
Glad you have found a new running partner. I like the new photo of you too!
gotta love mid-week long runs - and on a monday no less! nice! :)
if i were bob's wife - i would def be appreciative of your efforts to meet/make sure it's ok. i know i don't want to be a homewrecker! i am overly cautious about texting/facebooking my co-worker friends who are married/in-relationships. i don't want to make enemies.
Love running in the race. There is something so peaceful about the drops hitting the leaves!
Glad you found a running partner!
Okay, I meant rain. I am a little off this week!
