I cannot believe I have not posted since my 1/2 marathon on Saturday. Although I did not win the virtual race, I run in the middle of the pack. Not bad for my first 1/2 marathon.
Recovered:
You may have thought I was going to blog about how it took me days to recover from my 1/2 marathon, right? As a mom, recovery means a completely different thing upon returning from a 3 night trip away. My husband did a great job with the kids while I was gone (they did have to spend some time in their bedrooms for misbehavior on Sunday - which probably meant Lyle's patience had worn out), but the house was not too crazy. My flight was over a hour delayed, so I did not get home until after 6pm.
The recovery I am referring to is getting the house in order to start the week. Usually, I am able to do it slowly over the weekend. You know, the mounds of laundry, making sure their is food for their lunches, baths to be taken, unpacking, going over the schedule for the week... etc. It was tough. My husband was engulfed in the LOST series finale (can I just say that I am more lost than I was in the beginning?) while I tried to prep the house for the week.
I also volunteered to make 20 paper graduation hats for my son's class, so I was feeling overwhelmed. I love how running makes me feel calmer. It is hard to go away - I missed the family, but I do feel renewed, refreshed, and relaxed which equals a better mommy!
Still Running:
I got right back on the horse after my day of rest on the Sabbath.
Monday: 4.2 miles in 45 minutes with my new running buddy Bob
Tuesday: 3.5 miles in 33 minutes & walked 3.2 with kids (practicing for their 5k walk on Monday)
And for tonight (Wednesday), Bob has a track workout prepared for me. EEEEEEK! I have never done interval training. I am a little nervous. He said it would only be 5 miles total (3 to the track and back, with 2 mile track workout) but that we would be tired.
I hope I sleep like a baby as my baby, Brock, graduates from preschool on Thursday afternoon. I am so happy that these preschool years are over (driving back and forth, all of the $$$) and I know that Brock is ready for Kindergarten. He is an October boy and was ready this year, but our state has the law 5 by September 1st. I completely understand it and did not push the effort since he is vertically challenged; but I think this year has made him more than ready. The school he is heading to is good and he is excited to be going with his sister. I am sure I will be sad the first day of school... but I am THRILLED that I get him back for the whole summer. Kiera is slightly jealous that she still has to go to school, but June 16th is her last day.
It will be harder to get my runs in when they are not in school, but I will get precious time with my children. I am sure there will come a summer when they want nothing to do with me... and until then, I am going to cherish the summers I do get with them.

You seem to find the time (and energy!) to do it all! Glad you were feeling good after your half marathon. Good luck at the track!
I can relate to being a busy mom, running keeps me calm as well. Hope you are able to get everything you need to get done.
Congrats on your first half, WTG!
I hear you! Enjoy your time with your blessings!
I can so relate to your post! I have done a couple of trips lately w/o husband/kids and there's a lot of playing catch up when you return. Sounds like you have it all together.
I also have my youngest finishing off preschool and headed to kindergarten next fall. Bittersweet, that is for sure!
Perhaps you can take the kids with you on your runs?
I'm much impressed by your 'before' and 'after' shots! You look really different.

Nice job on recovering from your half marathon! Way to go!
Congrats on your half-marathon! I'm impressed with your mommy-style recovery...wow! Love the pics of the kids :)
they grow too fast! Yeah for running and summer!
You are amazing for being so organized!
Glad you had fun on your trip!
Enjoy your summer with the kiddos! I don't take trips, but my Mommy Mornings keep me feeling refreshed.
You have a great attitude! Thanks for the reminder to enjoy their attention while they want to give it. I should already know how quickly they go off on their own!...and barely call, hardly txt, never write...oh I miss Army son!
That is a great mom-style recovery. I'm glad that you enjoyed your trip.
Good luck with the track workout tonight!
I have two October boys, so I totally get the "so ready by the time they get there" thing. My youngest still has a year in preschool, but would totally thrive if thrown into K.
Can't wait to hear about the track workout in this heat!
