Seven Mile Thursday

I ran SEVEN miles on a Thursday!!! I know, I need to explain.

The baby that I watch during the week left early for Spring Break, so I got the morning off. Since I knew this in advance, I decided to volunteer at Brock's preschool at 10:30. If I took the long way, it would be 4 miles - so I decided to run there.

It felt great not to run with the jogging stroller. I had a hard time controlling my body temperature. One minute I was hot, the next chilly. The breezy, cloudy day was the main culprit, but I did get a little sunburn so the sun peek through enough to toast my face.

I got to his school pretty fast. I was worried I was going to be late, so I ran a great tempo.

I volunteered by helping them make tissue flowers and guiding them with the pinata event. I became the hero as I knocked it down after everyone had a chance... Brock was very proud.

I was not thinking when I decided to run there that I would have an hour in between for my muscles to cool down and I never stretched, so getting the momentum to run home was hard. I searched the parking lot for a mom I knew who could drive me home. I had no such luck.

Oh, well - it was meant for me to run home. I decided to take the 3 mile trek home and skip the 4 mile repeat. The 3 mile trek is more dangerous and some parts don't have sidewalks or shoulders, but the road was amazingly empty. At about .5, I saw a mom I knew pass me. A quick decision... run back to the school and ask for a ride home or keep going. I decided to keep going. It was tough. Mile 6 was like 12:40. Ugh! But I had to get home... so I kept on going.

I made it to my cool down spot and a nice neighbor and lovely friend stopped to chat. I convinced her to drive me the .3 of a mile home so I could quickly shower and get ready to go back to school to pick up Brock.

In the end, I am happy that I got 7 miles in... and the next time I think about running to his school, I will remember to stretch when I get there and spend at least 5 minutes warming up on the trek home. Not sure there will be a next time though.

I hope everything is having a great Thursday.

Good for you!! I've been there, not stretching after a run, it can be harsh!
That fact that you can actually run to your child's school will make you the envy of all the mom's!!

It's always difficult to get going again after a break. I think seven straight miles would have been easier than 4 followed by 3. Good for you!

It is hard to run, stop for awhile and pick it up again - at least for me. Good job.

Good job - sometimes needing to get home to pick up your son is just the motivation you need to move . . . move . . . move. GREAT run

Good for you!! I did the longest non-long-run-run yesterday at 5.6 miles, but today I am sick and stuck on the couch. Give yourself a pat on the back - you rock!!

Good for you for sticking it out! :)

It's amazing where I little legs can take us. I live close to a lot of things in town and many days during the winter just shrugged on some running clothes and "ran" my errands.
