Bathing Suit Shopping

I know, what does this post have to do with running, or swimming or cycling? Nothing... but kinda sorta of it does!

Yesterday (and today actually), Brock, my little man, did not have school. You see when the school conducts Kindergarten Orientation for the rising Kindergarten students, the current Kindergarten students do not have school. And because the past Principal was really smart, he managed to snag Memorial Day Weekend for our school. Think 5 day weekend for those families.

When Kiera was in Kindergarten we went to the beach and had a blast! With Brock being out of school... and Kiera well, having school (since she is in 2nd grade), we were not able to go away. (Side note: I am not opposed to taking Kiera out of school for 2 days, but her piano recital was originally scheduled for today and despite me telling the teacher in January that it was Memorial Day weekend and she said that she would not change the date, that same teacher changed the date last Monday to make it a week earlier because of said Holiday Weekend. And then it was too late to book a beach place, you know the weekend before - booooo!)

Anyway, long story short, I had to take Brock with me to work yesterday. He was extremely well behaved and I asked him what he wanted to do and he said, "I want to buy a Boston Red Sox hat" and despite my better judgement for his team choice, I took him to do just that.

While at the mall, I thought, "You know, I really need a bathing suit (that isn't my workout one) for the summer." Everything But Water store was calling my name as I entered the mall. And I tried on about 25 suits. The bad thing is that when I was an 8 or a 10, they NEVER had my size... now that I am much smaller, they STILL didn't have my size in many styles... I know, cry me a river, right?

Anyway, I REALLY wanted to get this one:

I mean, really... isn't it just perfect for this mother of two to wear to the pool all summer? NOT! Actually, I did not even see it in the store, just thought it more like lingerie than a swimsuit.

Okay, here are some of the ones I actually tried on:

I cannot find all of them, but Brock liked picking out ones for me to try on. And the best part of all, I looked good in all of them. I mean, not like the model, but like a fit mother. Obviously I nixed some right away because they were too skimpy for my taste (think bikini wax every week), but I brought 4 suits home for my husband to pick from and it was over $600. Yes, this store is quite expensive.

Which one do you think he chose? Kiera liked the purple one, although the bottoms I got were not so skimpy. Brock liked the a blue one, although I couldn't find it on the website... but it was a blue halter and I paired it with the last bottoms above.

The revelation I had was, this was the first time in like forever, that I actually had FUN trying on swimsuits. I mean, my belly isn't perfect (I did birth 2 kids and lose over 90 lbs), but I think I am confident enough to rock a bikini on occasion at the pool this summer. And I do not think it all has to do with the weight loss. I think as a runner and now moving into different training realms, I am more confident in myself. Even last year, when I *wanted* to rock a bikini at the pool, I never did! I am more toned than I was last year, but I think it is the confidence. And that confidence is what I wish for all of you. No matter your size or your style, rock it, right?
How are you ROCK'IN your swimsuit this summer?

Congrats to you for rocking a bikini!! I'm finally at a point where I will venture out into PUBLIC in a one-peice... it may be several years before a two-peice enters my wardrobe again...

What cute suits! I think Lyle picked the black, red and white one with the skirt bottom. But they're all great so you can't go wrong

Even though my weight is up I still just bought suits. I opted for two skirted bottoms because they were so darn cute! I think that I am past the two piece unless I can do some major work on my fitness. For now I am okay with that. Health and family issues need addressed first and then I will be able to carve out more time.

I love the white, black and red with the skirt for you! Super hot mom look!

Congrats to you for rockin' the bikini this year! They are all totally cute bikinis!
I won't be rockin' a bikini BUT I will be rocking a super cute suit 2 sizes smaller than last year's suit. :)

Good for you! Love the choices, esp. the black, white and red one with the skirted bottoms. And I LOVE Everything But Water. Got my last suit there and am heading back soon for a replacement.

For me, I'm enamored with the tankini (LOVE 'EM!). It's the best of both worlds, especially the ones with the open backs.

What an inspiring post! I'm not rockin' any gear that shows that much skin, but next year I will. Mark my words. :-)

I love these outfits! But I just hate shopping for bathing suits. They always look so terrible on me. If only I would look like the models in the pics.
