Do you skirt?

I skirt. I skirt on days where the temps are 50+. I skirt on days that are under 50 too, just pull a pair of tights on first. I enjoy skirting too. Why do I skirt?

I like the motto that: "It isn't how fast you run, but how good you look doing it!" With that being true, I also started skirting for other reasons. In the beginning it was because I wanted to cover my... well, large bum that was squished into spandex. As I lost weight, it just felt right to wear skirts.

As I mentioned before, when I skirt, I get stares, honks, smiles, glares, double takes, and even comments (some good, some bad). I have been called: Skirt girl, Skirt babe, Skirt-tard (yeah for another day), and Skirt Flirt.

Bob jokes sometimes that he is going to chase my skirt, which I take as a compliment... a new term for getting "chicked" at a race? TriGuru isn't really a fan, but I think it is because I am all matchy-matchy, not necessarily because I am wearing a skirt.

While some people say that skirters may not take their running seriously, I scoff at them. I know a LOT of FAST runners that prefer skirts. Reasons differ, but really it should not matter. Why do some runners prefer spandex and others prefer shorts? Why do some runners (ME) take time to actually pick out an outfit to run in that matches while others just grab whatever comes out of their drawer first? Does it make either of them a better runner or that they take the sport more serious?

I have had some luck while skirting too. Remember that New Years Day 5k where I met Candida? We had matching skirts... and instantly starting talking. It was nice. On the Turkey Trot, I had spectactors yell, "Nice Skirt" and it made me smile. Skirting has not exactly made its way to my area yet.

I started running in Nike skirts, then moves to a irunlikeagirl skirt (wore during MCM), and now I prefer runningskirts.com.

And since I love to skirt, I want to share the love and offer a giveaway for this skirt (NEW size 3 wms size 8). You can go to runningskirts.com to check out the specs, but I LOVE their skirts.

To enter the giveaway, you must:

1. Be a follower of my blog and leave a comment so I know you what in.

2. If you already skirt, tell me a story about your skirt wearing experience.  If you do not already skirt, tell me why you want to start to skirt.

Extra entries: for blogging about the giveaway, tweeting, Facebooking... etc. Leave a separate comment for each.

Winner will be announced on March 26th (after I finish the National Half Marathon). All entries need to be received no later than 11:59 pm Eastern Time on March 25th.

I accidentally bought a skirt off a clearance rack thinking it was a pair of shorts & boy, it was one of the best mistakes I've ever made! Love it! It's my favorite piece of running gear now! No plaid available in my small town though...ypor plaid rocks!

I skirt. I've been skirting since before skirting was popular. I started skirting (wearing a tennis skirt with spankies underneath) when I was in high school because my old fashioned nana didn't think it was appropriate for young ladies to be running around in shorts.

I have a camo/purple running skirt, which I started wearing at the beginning of last summer's racing season. By my September Marathon, it was falling down and I had to keep hiking it back into place. I love that thing : )

I have one running skirt. It is fun to wear when I am running or just working out. A couple weeks ago I wore it to play a game of basketball.

I wear skirts most of the time when it's warm enough. When I race, I wear either a skirt or tights. I've never gotten any negative feedback on my skirts, but I have gotten a few compliments on outfits. Like you, I always plan ahead and color coordinate, even if I'm running alone in the dark or on the treadmill. At a 5K in February, I wore a running skirt with pink compression socks, and at one point I heard a guy behind me say something about passing the girl with the pink socks. He never did pass me, but he came up to me after the race and commented on how he spent the race trying to catch me.

You know that I skirt for every run, rain, sleet, snow etc...My best story is at my Feb half my "skirt sisters" went ahead of me because of some injury problems and I started talking to a girl next to me. She then looked at me and said "I know you..." of course I am like...."YOu do?" she started laughing and said, "you were part of the skirt team at Manchester, we talked about the outfit for the rest of the day. Loved it." Did you pick a skirt for Saturday?

I wore a skirt (for the first time) on my first marathon in November. I got so many compliments on it - all positive :) Maybe they were all positive because I looked like I was about to die and they felt bad for me... regardless, I love love love running skirts.

My husband and I have done exactly ONE run together. It was in Hawaii a few years ago and he was trailing me as the heat had done him in. He asked me why I was trying to be all sexy when I run. I said WHAT? He said my skirt was flipping all the way up in the back with each step and he was getting a great view of my bum.
whoops! Maybe that one was a little TOO short.

I LOVE to skirt! I got my first one two years ago. I love them because my upper thighs carry a little excess baggage and having the skirt covers that, and makes my legs look thinner.

Plus the hubby loves the mini skirt look!

I have a white running skirt that I really loved(d). During a training run for the You Go Girl Half, I was running with some brand new running friends in Browns Point. We ran under a tree, I looked down at my skirt and thought I had scraped my finger and got some blood on the skirt. Um, no...I got pooped on by a bird, in my WHITE skirt. The stains still haven't come completely out.

I have even converted some of my friends to wear them :) I will never go back to shorts!

I would love to try a skirt though..I'm fairly conservative in my clothing (and self consious about my body) so I HATE TIGHTS...I feel like my butt and thighs are just jiggling away back there!---i think a skirt would lessen that feeling---thats why I dont run half the time, I"m too self consious to put on running clothes!

I bought a skirt on clearance, out of curiousity. I am not a skirt kinda girl, but thought I'd give it a try. I was amazed at home comfortable it was, and how great it was to not have shorts that bunch up or ride up.

scrapping4twins said...

Just wanted to say "have an awesome run during your half"!

Jill said...

I love to skirt, but skirts are tricky on me since I have some...um big hips! I love to wear them over my spandex so they can cover my bootie.

I love how girly I feel in my skirts and how you don't see a tone of them out their...so it also makes you stand out a bit as a runner.

Ellen Holley said...

And finally....
I skirt!...
I had looked into buying a skirt last summer but they were always out of my price range. Until I found one on a clearance rack. North Face with compression shorts underneath. This skirt is my "go to" garment. I wore it cave tubing in Belize, Zip Lining in Mexico and I wear it at least one day a week when I'm C25K-ing. My local sporting goods store doesn't have any yet, (I just checked last week) but I will be getting another one soon. The one I bought is actually too big now. Since beginning running I have lost inches in all the right places, which makes a skirt all the more appealing to wear. :-)

Paige (The Last Doughnut) said...

I tried to skirt once! I bought one, got it home, tried to run in it, and it was way too big. Since I only wore it once, I gave it to a friend of mine and now she skirts! I would love to give the skirt another try!

I first bought a skirt when I started back running after baby #2. My pre baby shorts were too small so I opted for something with a little more coverage. Now I wear them because I like them!

The Mama said...

I skirt because when I started running a year ago, I didn't want anyone to see my shorts going up my booty as my thighs did their thing. I stopped wearing skirts for a while, but have recently noticed that my runs are easier, less "fidgety", and all around more productive when I have on my skirt.
