Cocky

Ever been in a situation that you think you have all of the control but then after the fact you realize that it was all smoke and mirrors?

On Wednesday, I was "challenged" at the gym. I was doing strength training with back, triceps and biceps and it usually calls for step-ups or lunges. First of all, I hate step-ups. I feel silly in the gym doing this and really, really, I do not feel like it is doing anything. Lunges, well, I HATE those even more. P90X has me doing a lot of lunges and due to my weak knees (all in my head), I tend to hold on to the wall when I do lunges to get extra support. In the gym, there is nothing I can hold on to without looking like a wuss.

Okay, back to the story. After I complained (kicked and screamed) that I did not want to do lunges or step-ups, I was given another task. I was to stand on one foot, with the other just off the ground in front of me and sit down and quickly stand up. Do this 10x on each leg. Oh... it was SOOOOOO easy. I still felt a little awkward. The meat heads were looking at me. Some were laughing at me... but I was knocking this out of the park. It was easy... too easy. I laughed at this challenge.

But do you know what? I CAN BARELY WALK! My thighs were sore yesterday but as the day progressed, I started to really feel the burn. Going down stairs = impossible to do without wincing. This morning... well, it hasn't gotten much better. Just stepping out of the bed - ouch. But it is ouch in a good way.

I have two thoughts:

1. Really, Tony Horton, you aren't working those muscles with P90X? Seriously, I don't think that this muscle has ever been worked the way it hurts.

2. It does NOT pay to be cocky in the gym... you just wind up being sore. I really hope I can run tomorrow.
Have you go into a workout cocky and found it kicked your butt?

My friend Beth is my trainer too. She does the one leg off the ground, sit down things and I hear you, their is no walking the next day. Happy Friday!

I can't really envision the move you're describing, but whatever they are apparently I need to be doing them!

I'm thinking that too (@ Pam's comment)!

On Wednesday I brought a ton of wood pellets into my house and by ton I don't mean a lot I mean an actual ton. Via the front door, down 20 some very steep basement steps, back a hall and into our furnace/muck area. I was running the return lap, you know thinking what a nice little extra burn I was getting. Yesterday I woke up feeling fine. Nothing out of the ordinary. But as the day wend on, I began to feel my shoulders (I carried the 40 pound bags on my shoulders) and then my sides and then my thighs. By the end of the day I realized that the little extra "burn" had kicked my butt!

I must have done that at some point... but it's been too long to remember!

I love when Tony does the "P90X... (click the tongue and tilt the 'x' of the crossed arms to a '+')... plus".

Ha, that's why I love the classes at the gym. I am always humbled when they are over......

Yep, this is when the trainer shows their worth! :) I'll have to look into those sit-down things!

No! I've never been cocky in a workout but I do tend to get cocky in sports. I think I'm an awesome volleyball player but am mediocre at best. I also tend to think I'm tall while playing volleyball.
