I was determined to get my run in this morning. Hubby did not have to go to work today (a reason to love the snow) as the federal government was off again today and the House adjourned and the Senate adjourned until tomorrow (gives us time to shovel again). I let him sleep in and was prepared to run when he came down. I managed to keep the kids occupied while I caught up on bloggy world and when hubby came down, I said, "I am going for a run."
He said, "It is too dangerous... you don't know where the icy patches are because of the snow, and it is still snowing."
I said, "I think we have enough snow that the icy patches are covered and I will bring my cell phone in case I need you."
As I raced upstairs to get dressed in my UA cold gear, I started to have doubts. I got all the way down to my undies with one leg in those tight leggings (please pardon the image) and I started to cry. I know my hubby is right. What if I fell and got really hurt? What if a car hit me because the visibility isn't the best since it is still snowing and most of the sidewalks still have 3 feet of snow on them?
I haven't run since last Friday. I haven't run for 6 days!!!!! I feel so fragile. I feel like I will never be ready to run the marathon (which isn't even until October. The registration is in April and it is tough to get a spot - so come April, I may post... I didn't get a spot blog entry).
The Good: But since I did not go out and run, I am injury free (still minor back strain from shovelling). I can still stay on track with my P90X. Up for today is: Chest & Back and Ab Ripper X. After all, Tony Horton does not expect me to run and do P90X. I was putting extra pressure on myself.
Last night, I did X Stretch. It was AWESOME. It was 50 minutes of just stretching. It felt so good and I was still sweating, so I know I got a workout. Who spends over 50 minutes stretching? It was amazing... did I say that already?
Also, Hubby was feeling better so he caught up and did Kenpo X last night. Yay! So we can work out together again and since he isn't working, we will not have to wait until the evening to do it.
I feel better now. Thanks for listening (reading). I know the snow will melt enough for me to run eventually. After all, I do not live in Greenland. Here is the picture of my mailbox this morning.... see what a difference a day makes? Also, I must apologize to Mr. Mailman (in case he secretly reads my blog too). I got my mail yesterday and it was all junk mail. Maybe he did come on Monday and I just did not have any mail. If you did come Mr. Mailman, I was ready and I apologize for all of the people who did not make their mailbox clear for you.

I know it is frustrating, but it is CRAZY out there and we want you to be safe and healthy! Keep your eye on the prize and your plan looks good for the week!
The snow just missed us last week. Today the forecast here is estimating it in feet of snow, not inches. Think there is a lot of shoveling in my agenda for today. :(
I can totally relate to this post, my husband drove through a major snow storm and blizzard to get me to my last 5km run, nothing was going to stop me, once a runner always a runner!
I'm sure the snow will melt soon and you'll be out there again.
Just know that with the P90X you are getting stronger, and your running will be that much better, I know I already feel it, I ran 9km on the weekend and it felt like a breeze (well except for the pain I got around the 5km mark) but i did feel alot stronger.
You'll be out there again in no time!
PX90 is a great exercise program and you will not lose too much conditioning if you keep at it. Running in the snow is fun but what you guys are getting is way beyond fun. It seems like a wise decision to postpone running for now.
Hope the weather improves soon.
You made a smart decision! I wanted to run today because I also got an unexpected day off from work, but am second thinking because it is kind of sort of really dangerous out there! And my gym is closed, so I'm bumming! Luckily I have my bike hooked up to a trainer so I can do something today...
PS I just got a breaking news alert from WaPo saying PLOWING service has been suspended due to unsafe conditions. If the roads aren't safe for the plows they certainly aren't safe for runners!
Say it with me now: MELT MELT MELT MELT MELT MELT!!
We need to do an un-snow dance! Go away snow you are holding up all us runners! Great job sticking with your px90! I guess soon we will be complaining that it is too hot or at least we can hope!
i am glad that your hubs is looking out for you. we don't want anything to happen to you. don't worry...soon, you will be running again. i am really impressed with the P90x. have a warm day and enjoy your time indoors.
Wow, that is crazy! If we get snow in the Pacific Northwest, it is a "special" treat. Everything shuts down if there is even an inch of snow! Beautiful, but annoying if you are trying to run!
It will be spring soon :)
Jen,
Great job so far with the P90X! You are prof that if you dedicate yourself to the P90x that amazing changes can happen.

Congrats on your success with P90X! I'm on day 25 of my P90X workout! Today is the recovery week for me so things have been fairly easy (with the exception of Core Synergistics). Anyways, keep up the hard work!!
Just found your blog~ glad that I did. How has the P90X been for you? I have been curious about the results for women?
Love your dedication!! Be smart and you will make it to the start line!
I actually used yak trax today for the first time, they worked great!!
Congrats on your weight loss...you look amazing!
i feel your frustrations, but playing it safe never hurts! at least you'll still be able to run freely when the snow starts melting instead of nursing some weird injury.
AAAAGGGHH!!! I cannot believe that picture of your mailbox!!!!! You have PLENTY of time before marine corps! Don't even let this affect you in the least. You'll do awesome. If you ever come here to visit, I MUST take you to my favorite yoga place. It's heated yoga and you're there for an hour and 15 minutes of fabulous strength building poses that stretch every part of you. I totally get how great you felt after your stretching workout. And talk about sweating puddles at this yoga place....
